12 days until graduation!!

Tuesday, April 20, 2004

Welcome to Tuesday, world! It is a gray and dreary looking day outside. Yesterday, I was seriously considering calling a mental health day today and not going to Fort Worth. The weekend was very eventful. I was working at one of the CMTA festivals on Saturday morning. One of the adjudicators works with the youth choir at my church, and she asked me if I wanted to go on choir tour with them, and play the piano. I think it sounds fun, but I don't know about my schedule yet. After the festival, David came over, and we had intended to spend the day shopping. However, as we stopped back at his place to grab his wallet, his car battery decided to die. David called Jeff & Lisa to ask them to take us to Auto Zone to buy a new one. Lisa came to our rescue! (Thanx, Lisa!) By the time everything was all fixed, it was too late to head to the stores. Instead, we wound up cooking dinner and watching Brother Bear at Jeff & Lisa's house. We then went for ice cream before heading home. It was a fun evening.

Sunday was good. I played the tamborine with the youth choir at the early service and had a few minutes of peace and quiet (what's that, you ask?) before the first and second graders came in for rehearsal. We wound up combining with the older choir, and were working on a really neat piece. I spent the afternoon addressing graduation announcements (Yay! Only 18 days left!) and doing laundry. Oh, and I found out the my walk-the-stage ceremony is at five-thirty instead of four-thirty. Good to know. David was helping his friend Josh move, he came over afterwards. We watched Something's Got to Give. A very cute movie! I was sleeping through the Divas concert on VH1, when David said my phone was ringing. Well, it was my good friend Becky, who is up at O.U. She is getting her Bachelor's in Education and Choral Performance the same day I graduate. I'm a little bummed that it is the same day, so we can't go to each other's ceremony, but we will be there in spirit with each other. Becky and I have been friends since I was in seventh grade and she was in eighth grade at Griffin Middle School in The Colony. The percussion section stood behind the French horn section, so that's how we became friends. We had lost touch after I graduated from high school, until my friend Ian went up to O.U. He plays French horn also, and they wound up in the same ensemble. His case still had his The Colony High School tag on it, so somehow they found out that they both knew me, and she got my phone number and we've been in touch ever since. That's really cool!

Monday was Monday. I wanted to stay home and sleep. Instead, I did my normal Monday routine. Dance lesson was frustrating last night. I couldn't seem to do anything right! Our instructor was very encouraging, though, and by the end of the lesson, I felt okay. Today, I had one patient show up, the other not. (Which is why I have the time to type this post.) The session went really well, I surprised myself by coming up with a really creative way to get at one of her issues. I'm really excited about tonight's event. David and I are going to listen to Dr. Maya Angelou give a lecture up at UNT! I am really, really excited about this. I don't know what she is speaking about, she could be standing there reading the phone book for all I know. I read I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings as a teenager and have admired her wit and intellect ever since. Can you tell I'm excited?

Well, kids, that's a wrap. I need to head up to Denton now.

Well, today has been a mixed day. I had a wonderful day at Behavioral Innovations. I really enjoy working there! The people are really nice, and it is a very supportive atmosphere. I ate lunch at my grandparents' house, as they live just across LBJ Freeway from work. We had a nice visit before I had to get back to work. The afternoon went by so fast, it barely seemed like a few minutes until it was time to go home. I was supposed to have three students today, however, the first student didn't show. Oh, well.

Yesterday I had an interview with Birdville ISD. It went really well, and we had a great talk. However, I found out this evening, that they decided to go with someone else. Lovely. She was very nice and I was disappointed that I did not get the position. Guess it's time to send out more resumes and e-mails to school districts. If all else fails, I can get another (un-paid) treatment practicum a couple of days a week for the fall, and then keep working at Behavioral Innovations. It wouldn't be as much money, but at least it'd be something.

I'm in a mopey mood, so that's all I'm going to say tonight.

Well, we saw The Passion of the Christ tonight. I am glad that I saw it, although I don't know that I can say I enjoyed it. The movie was very well made, and it was a very good movie. I had heard a lot of things about it from classmates, people at church and even parents of my students. I knew it was going to be intense and graphic, which it was. There were several parts of the movie that were extremely difficult to watch. To me, that movie showed us how much God loves us. I mean, He sent His Son to die for me! And you, and everyone! And Jesus didn't fight it, He just took the punishment that we should have received! After the movie was over, I just sat in my seat for a bit, then David and I walked out of the theatre. I really didn't feel like talking at first (which if you know me, is very hard to believe), but then we had a good discussion about it. I still think it is so amazing that Jesus took all that punishment for us!

David brought up an excellent point. He told me that Jesus would have done the same thing even if I were the only person on the planet. I think this is true. He was on that cross because of me, of my sins! That was very, very humbling for me. I still just want to sit and think about it some more.

I have other things to report about, but the movie is the only thing on my mind, so be patient!

But when you finally see it and understand what He went through, it makes you feel not only compassion, but also a debt. You want to repay Him for the enormity of His sacrifice." -- Mel Gibson

Today has been a fantabulous day!! First of all, today is my mom's birthday. Happy Birthday, Mom!!! We enjoyed a nice lunch at Mimi's Cafe in Lewisville. Then, we journeyed off to Sam Moon for some shopping! I didn't find anything I couldn't live without, but Mom bought some cool things. We went to another place down the road, and found more cool stuff. I bought a really pretty silver and multi-colored beaded bracelet. I was looking at watches, they had some that looked really small. However, they weren't quite small enough for my wrist. Oh, well. We had a pleasant afternoon.

I also received a phone call from Billy at Behavioral Innovations. He and I chatted for awhile, and it turns out they wanted to offer me a job! I'm going to start a week from today, and I'll be doing a little bit of everything. Administrative work, talking with parents, working with the supervisors and doing therapy! He said they didn't really have a title for what I'll be doing, and they created the position just for me! Yay!! So I'll be making money! I'll come in on Thursdays until the semester is over, then I'll come in more. I'm really, really excited about this! Yay!!!!!!
