This was sent to me by my aunt. An Australian dentist wrote this, I don't know his name:

An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German,
Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek.

An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese,
Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani, or
Afghan.

An American may also be a Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache,
Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.

An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or
Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan.
The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each
of them chooses.

An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will
answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming
to speak for the government and for God.

An American is from the most prosperous land in the history of the
world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of
Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each person the
pursuit of happiness.

An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every
other nation in the world in their time of need. When Afghanistan was
overrun by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and
supplies to enable the people to win back their country.!

As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any
other nation to the poor in Afghanistan.

Americans welcome the best, the best products, the best books, the
best music, the best food, the best athletes. But they also welcome the
least.

The national symbol of America, The Statue of Liberty, welcomes your
tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the
homeless, tempest tossed.

These in fact are the people who built America. Some of them were
working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a
better life for their families.

I've been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least
30 other countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that
aided and abetted the terrorists.

So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did
General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and every bloodthirsty tyrant
in the history of the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing
yourself.

Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular
place.

They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who
holds
to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

Here is Venus, journeying across the sun!

Today has been just a swell day. I was driving down I-35 to go to work today. It was raining, so I was driving slower than normal, and being watchful for puddles of water on the road. Well, I hit a slick spot, spun around (more of a fishtail than a spin), and wound up scraping the guardrail with my back bumper. I was close to the off ramp and in the right lane, so I was trying to steer that way during the fishtail, rather than spinning into the other lanes. Well, after my car stopped, I pulled off the road and checked my car. A guy behind me pulled over to see if I was okay. I was shaken up pretty bad, but okay. My car has some lovely scrapes on the back bumper, but it is not too bad. I was so lucky, that I wasn't hurt, I didn't hit anyone else, and my car is okay.

I called in to work and told them I was going to be late, then called my mom. I arrived at work, they had me sit down and relax for a little while, then told me to go home. David came over and has been taking care of me (thank you, David!)

Well, I have spent the last two hours vacuuming and mopping the kitchen floor. After I finished mopping, I decided the mop did not do a good job (for normal cleaning it would have been fine, but we are getting ready to host a party in a couple of weeks, and the baseboards need repainting, so I "got" to clean the floor thoroughly), so I spend a little over an hour on my knees on the kitchen floor with some paper towels and some Windex. If anyone spills anything on this floor, I think I will have to hurt them.

Birthday Greetings: Happy Birthday, Dad!

Wednesday, June 02, 2004

Well, the storms have subsided for now, but we're supposed to get more later tonight. I should be in bed, I have to get up early tomorrow, because tomorrow is an early day at work. However, I can't sleep. Too much going on in the old brain, I guess. Anyone know any good cures for insomnia, even temporary insomnia? I already finished one of my books that I bought over the weekend. I guess I shall start on number two book. Sweet dreams, everyone.

Well, it is pouring down rain and we're having a real ripsnorter of a storm outside! (So, what the heck am I doing on the computer?) Anywho, today has been a most awesome day! Back in March, I submitted a research proposal to the Texas Psychological Association for presentation at their annual conference. Quite honestly, I did not think it was that great a project, and did not think it would be accepted. Today, I was checking my e-mail, and there was a letter from someone on the submission committee, telling me that my proposal has been accepted! I'm going to be presenting at the state conference in November!!! How cool is that? I will present on Friday, November 19th, from 3:30-4:30. (Actually, I don't think I'll be presenting the whole time, I think that's the time for the poster presentations as a whole.) I am doing a poster presentation, which is where we make a poster of the project, detailing the participants, methods, procedures, results, and implications of the study. I am really excited!

I went to work right after that, and was telling everyone at Behavioral Innovations! They were all really excited for me! Now all I have to do is get the article written, then transfer it to a poster format. Woo hoo!

Something else we found out today. David and I have a wedding site where we discuss the wedding plans. Well, someone from Modern Bride magazine is doing an article on wedding websites, particularly blogs written by the groom, and wants to interview us! Yay! I told Heather, who said that when the magazine came out, her family was going to buy three copies of it! I think that is really cool!

Anywho, I'm going to get off the computer now. Make it a great one!

Birthday Greeting: Happy Birthday, Jeffrey!!
