Hello, world! Today is the first day of autumn. What a day it has been! We had a rough time dealing with a particular girl at the elementary school. This is the same girl who has run away from class and had to be restrained a while back. She was at school three days last week, and all three days was in the principal's office for her behavior and was sent home. Today, we decided to not send her home and to keep her at school. Which is probably the best thing for her, but not the best thing for us! We were dealing with her pretty much most of the day. I know I was exhausted when I left the school this afternoon. The special ed director and I were discussing some of the methods of assessment I could use with her during the few times that she is compliant. One thing good happened today! Last week, the diagnostician at the elementary school and I were discussing prayer, things we've prayed about and our church lives. We mentioned something about possibly getting a prayer group together. The diagnosticians at the middle school and high school were also both interested. So, we decided to meet once a week around lunch time for a devotional and prayer. We have to keep it low profile, thanx to being in a public school setting, but we'll meet in a room that is relatively unused. We met today for the first time, and I really enjoyed the time together. I felt at peace after leaving the meeting, which I needed soon after, because I went back to dealing with the runaway girl.
Well, go make it a great one, everyone!

Well, I was driving home from David's tonight after youth, and I heard the funniest song on the radio! I called the station once I got home and found out the artist and title of the song. So, without further adieu, here it is!Colors Are All the Same, by Bill Pekar and Skip Brown.
She was born in College Station; her daddy had a farmer’s PHD
Her first steps were taken with the Corps on Kyle Field
When she graduated, she bought a maroon pick-up truck
They celebrated down at the Dixie Chicken when she opened her vet practice up
Now he was born Austin, his daddy had a store down on the drag
Ever since the school had opened, relatives were Longhorn grads
His room was painted orange, he was getting his degree
In the band playing French horn, first row, second seat
Gig ‘em Aggies, Hook ‘em Horns
One side’s maroon, the other, burnt orange
He saw her at a concert, way before Robert Earl Keen
She was wearin’ an Aggie shirt, to him it didn’t mean a thing
He pushed his way on through the crowd like any ol’ hungry bull would do
When he was close enough he shouted, “Hey, mind if I sit by you?”
She turned around and stared at him, couldn’t believe her eyes
He had a burnt orange jacket, Longhorns from side to side
Well she looked again and took a chance, said “That’s OK with me”
Something in that second chance went beyond the rivalry
When your eyes are closed and you’re in the dark,
The colors are all the same
Just two beating hearts not playing any games
You can gig ‘em, you can hook ‘em
One thing’ll never change
When your eyes are closed and you’re in the dark,
The colors are all the same
When she went to meet his Mother, she was wearing a cowboy hat
When they left they hugged each other, Mom said, “You’re always welcome back”
When she took him home to Daddy, she worried about the ring in his ear
He was makin’ pretty good money but his tattoo was pretty clear
Well they decided to get married, bridesmaids wore maroon
The ring bearer carried a burnt orange package to the groom
Well the ring that he gave her was diamond mounted on two thumbs
Sitting on a Longhorn cradle, cause when it’s said and done
When your eyes are closed and you’re in the dark,
The colors are all the same
Just two beating hearts not playing any games
You can gig ‘em, you can hook ‘em
Now all they had to do was figure out where they’re gonna live
Well they flipped a coin and that is how she got her way over his
Well they vacationed up in Kerrville, they went down to the coast
Their first born they named Earl, you should have heard them boast
Every year at Thanksgiving, Earl could take either side
All the birthday gifts he was given were hints they couldn’t hide
There were 12th man T-shirts and Longhorns of every size
His first two words were, “Gig ‘em Bevo”, always playing both sides
Gig ‘em Aggies, Hook ‘em Horns
One side’s maroon, the other, burnt orange
When it came time to go to college, Earl didn’t know what to do
His Dad wanted him in Austin, his Mom in maroon
Well, the moral of this story, is if you listen to this song
Where do y’all think he went to college?, well , you just might be wrong
Well he tried both universities and you don’t have to wonder how
He says with all sincerity…
“I’m a Southwest Texas Bobcat now!”
When your eyes are closed and you’re in the dark,
The colors are all the same
Just two beating hearts not playing any games
You can gig ‘em, you can hook ‘em

Hello, world! Today has been so crazy! I had my first ARD at Lake Dallas. An ARD is a meeting where we discuss the academic placement and progress of a particular student. One of the other LSSPs was available at the ARD just in case I needed some help. My job was to discuss the observation data that I had, and to try to come up with reasons for the particular misbehaviors that the student was exhibiting. I also was in charge of making the behavior intervention plan, where we decide what interventions and consequences the teacher will use in the classroom. At any rate, it went really well, and I felt that my suggestions were supported by the ARD committee! After the ARD, I went back to the special education office to start paperwork for another ARD on Friday. I have some consults that I am doing over at the high school, so after lunch, I ventured over there. Once I arrived at the high school, the receptionist said that the special ed office had called me, and needed to call them back. It turns out that a student at my elementary school was having another meltdown. The special education director went over there to help out, then I went. It was the same girl that we had issues with two weeks ago. However, it did end on a good note, as both parents finally signed the consent form for special education testing! Now we can hopefully get this girl some help.
Yesterday afternoon was so much fun! I was helping out with the youngest children's choir at church. The kids are three and four years old. Next week, we'll split them up into two groups based on age. I had so much fun working with them! I spent most of the time laughing at their behavior. They were so cute! We taught them to sing "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands." Then we gave them instruments and they played along. We then marched around the room in a parade! They LOVED that! I am so excited about working with them!
Afterwards, we met up with David's mom and Samantha for a nice dinner at Old San Francisco steakhouse. They put a huge block of aged swiss cheese and a cheese sliceron the table. David had great fun slicing up the cheese for everyone. I had some fantabulous french onion soup, which was served in an onion. Very unique presentation. It was a fun evening.
Well, tonight is the season premiere of 7th Heaven. Since Friends is no longer on, it is now my favorite show, along with Everwood which comes on right afterward. In fact, I'm watching 7th Heaven right now! Go make it a great one!

Welcome to Sunday, world! I have had a couple of absolutely insane weeks! Yesterday I took the NCSP exam, the exam that will give me licensure as a school psychologist. I feel like I was prepared for it, although there were some questions that I did not know. We had two hours to take the exam, and couldn't leave until the two hours were up. (Gee, I love those standardized tests.) So I was finished about twenty-five minutes before time was up, so I went back and checked my answers, some of which I did change. Which probably means that I'll get those questions wrong. Anywho, I will find out my results in about a month. One of my fellow graduate students wound up taking the exam at the same location as me, so we went out for breakfast afterwards and caught up on everything. Once I got home, I had a few errands to run, then spent the afternoon with the other two Chicks (of Three Chicks fame) at the St. Ann carnival. We went in the fun house, and I seriously wanted to sing the song from Grease that they sing while they're running around in the fun house. We also went on a few rides that spun, round and round, and also went on a slide that we sat on a potato sack to slide down. It was kind of hot, but we had a fantabulous time! Afterwards we cooled off at Marble Slab Creamery. (Mmmm, ice cream!)
The past couple of weeks have been pretty eventful. I have been so busy going back and forth between schools! We haven't had anyone try to run away from class again (thank goodness). I have my first ARD to be in charge of tomorrow. I worked hard getting the paperwork filled out for the meeting. One of the other LSSPs is also going to be present, in case I need any help during the meeting. I've interviewed kids, I've done consultations, conducted observations and filled out paperwork. (I've always been amazed by the amount of paperwork utilized by the public education system. If anyone uses more paperwork than the public education system, I'd like to know who.) Anywho, we will see how the ARD goes tomorrow.
This week will start my typical fall schedule. We'll have church on Sunday mornings, then in the afternoons I'll return up there to assist with the children's choirs. Then it'll be time for youth praise team rehearsal, where I am the back-up drummer. (Yay!) After that, we'll be helping with the youth.
Tomorrow night is our last dance lesson, then I'll have Monday nights free. Tuesday nights will be band rehearsal. I'm really looking foward to being at band again. We had our first rehearsal last week, and went so well, I'm really excited about the new season! Wednesday nights, I'll be at church again, leading a small group and singing in the choir. That will be my evening schedule for now. I can hardly wait to get started! I love being involved in a bunch of different things.
Well, I need to get going, must get up to church! Go make it a great one!
