In the Kitchen With Dezi

Well, my appointment for this afternoon with an MHMR client got cancelled, so I wound up working from home today. I got quite a bit accomplished, including writing letters and reports for work.

I decided around lunchtime that I wanted to experiment with food. This can be good, or bad. David and I frequently make blueberry scones out of muffin mix, milk, and a sandwich maker. I decided to try the same thing with cornbread mix and water. It didn't work. It really didn't work. I also made some rice and put chili powder on it. That, too didn't work. I ate a smidge, then decided to go get some real food. PB & J looks really good compared to questionable scones!

Hopefully my next experiment with food will turn out much better. I hope so.

School Shenanigans

I went up to school to get my new student i.d. and check out the psychology clinic. I wanted to find out where all the forms are, where my clinic box is, where to make appointments and all that jazz. I also saw that my supervisor's office was open, so I went in and introduced myself to him. We had a good talk, I think this will be a good year.

I then went over and updated my student i.d. card. Since I got my name changed, they also decided to update my picture. Since my first i.d. picture was taken in 1996 when I was a freshman, and was not a good picture, I was more than happy to oblige. This picture turned out really good, I was very pleased.

After that, I went to the library. I was supposed to be able to access my e-book for practicum off campus. However, it doesn't work, so I asked why at the reference desk. The lady at the desk was very nice, and told me what I'd need to do. Apparently I have to set up my e-book account up at school, then I can access it from home. So I tried that, then found out that someone had checked out the e-book, so I couldn't read it anyway. I then found a hard copy of the book in the library, and checked it out. So now it's mine until December 17. Now I won't have to worry about accessing the e-book. Yay!

All Registrated and Ready to Go!

My mom started college when I was going into third grade. I remember going with her up to UNT for class registration. For some reason, I had decided that you registrate (not register) for classes at registration. Grammatically, it made sense to an eight year-old Dezi. So ever since then, we have always said "registrate" whenever we were talking about registering for classes.

I registered and paid for my class on Friday. No, I'm not taking a classroom class, but my practicum that I am doing is considered a class, and I must register for it. I had a fit of a time trying to get the graduate coordinator to call me back and give the advisory number so I could take this class. Well, I finally did, and went online to sign up. That took all of five minutes. Then, because for whatever reason, my student account said I didn't owe any money, so therefore I couldn't pay tuition online. Which meant I had to go pay tuition in line. Stand in line at the cashier's office, that is. Luckily I brought a book with me, and the line moved along at a decent pace. I paid my tuition and am ready to start!

On Fridays this semester, I will have individual supervision with my supervisor, as well as group supervision with the other practicum students. I have readings that I'll have to do, as well as having a required number of therapy hours to complete by the end of the semester. One of the things that I will do is supervise the second-year students on their assessments. I'll get to watch through a two-way mirror and make comments and suggestions on their performance. One of their assessment clients will be one of my therapy patients. It's definitely going to be a learning experience. It'll be good.

Witty Title Goes Here

Wow, August is almost over! Where did the summer go? Time has really flown by this year. Last week was the first choir rehearsal of the season. I had a great time, and look forward to the rest of them. While I certainly enjoy the singing and music, the best part of rehearsal is the people. It's really great!

A couple of weeks ago, I found out that I have to have another practicum. Since I had completed the required number of practica, this was a shock to me. After e-mail tag with a particular professor, I found that I must have another practicum in a behavioral medicine facility. I was sent a list of possible sites and told to send back my top five. I found out today that I will be completing my practicum at the UNT Psychology Clinic, which means I can work on my research when I'm not seeing clients. While I was not thrilled about having to do another practicum, I am excited about working in the clinic.

I had a meeting scheduled for this afternoon at MHMR in Fort Worth. However, as I was about to get on LBJ, I received a phone call from my supervisor, saying that the meeting was cancelled. I was glad that I was still relatively close to home when I got the phone call. However, I was just down the street from Behavioral Innovations! I decided to stop by and visit. I had a nice chat with several people. It was such a great place to work, I really miss seeing the people there each week. It's been a good day!

Rain, Rain, Rain

David and I went to Abilene this past weekend to visit his family. Saturday morning, Barbara and I got out and ran around town. We stopped in at a nail salon, where I had a manicure and we both had pedicures. She and I had several great talks throughout the weekend, I really enjoyed those! It was great bonding between us. We also stopped by Fazoli's to pick up lunch. I love Fazoli's and any excuse to go there, I will take.

Saturday afternoon was spent visiting, looking at wedding and honeymoon pictures, and entertaining Rachel. In the evening, we met up with Braden and Heather. We had dinner at a great Chinese restaurant and then went bowling. I am really not a good bowler. In fact, I'm a rather lousy bowler. I call myself the "Gutter Ball Queen." I lived up to my name on Saturday night, although I did get a strike! Afterwards, we went back to their place and visited with their adorable Shih Tzu, Whisper. We had a fantabulous time with them.

Sunday, I went to Sunday school with Barbara, then we went back to the house and had lunch. When we were ready to start home, David had a headache, so he asked me to drive. He helped me navigate through Abilene, to the highway. Well, it was raining a bit when we started, then it started pouring hard. I could barely see, and it was really scary. David suggested I pull over at a Dairy Queen that was at a nearby exit.

Well, we had rain most of the way home, but we got here, so yay! Monday night, I went out with Heather and Amanda. We looked at wedding pictures, went out to dinner and Starbucks. The three of us had a great time, and I look forward to having more fun with them. On our way to dinner, we saw a beautiful rainbow. Heather and I remembered how we saw a rainbow on our last Girls' Night before the wedding.

As we were driving home after our night out, it started pouring again. It was horrible, and since it was dark, that made it worse. There was a wreck on the tollway, that made traffic even slower. We got back to the apartment, the girls hung out there until the rain let up.

Rain, rain, rain!

Marathon Night

During the summer, with all the wedding planning going on, David and I didn't do a whole lot with the youth group. Now that we are back and getting settled in, I am excited about being involved with the youth program again! This week was youth week. David went to Hawaiian Falls with a group of kids on Tuesday.

Last night was Marathon Night for the junior high. We went to a place in Carrollton called Group Dynamix. They had a ropes course, relay races, inflatable obstacle courses, and a collection of beanbag chairs to curl up and watch movies in. It was a really neat place for a bunch of junior high kids!

We hit a snag not too long after we got there, when the power went off. David had a flashlight in his car, several of the youth counselors pulled out our cell phones to give off some sort of light. After several false alarms with the lights, one of the other counselors and I were sent to a local Wal-Mart to retrieve some more flashlights. (Group Dynamix is located in Carrollton, my city of residence up until the wedding, so I know my way around pretty well.)

The lights came on while we were driving to Wal-Mart, but we decided to pick up flashlights anyway just in case, plus some bags of ice. The lights stayed on for the rest of the night, so we didn't need them. We had a great time at Marathon Night. Since David had to work today, he left shortly after midnight, but I stayed the night. (I know, I know, I can't decide if I'm a glutton for punishment or just plain crazy. Or both.)

After dropping the kids off at the church, I went home and crashed. I'm still really tired, but that's all part of the fun. Looks like the new school year for the youth is off to a great start!
