This week has gone by really quickly! The therapy session with my client on Monday went very well! Monday night, I went to my knitting lesson. We compared our swatches, learned how to correct our mistakes, and starting our new project. My next project is a baby hat. After that, Mom gave me a pattern for a blanket. I'm really looking forward to working on them!
My mom has been talking about a really cool yarn place in Arlington. Well, on Tuesday, I happened to be right down the street with some time to kill. I got to experience that which is Yarn Heaven. It is a really awesome yarn place! I spent quite a bit of time in there, looking at all the yarns, books and notions that go with everything! I could definitely see why my mom likes that place so much!
Tuesday night was band rehearsal. Our next concert is Tuesday, November 1st. We ran through all of our pieces, confirmed the order in which we're playing, and what time to show up. I'm really looking forward to our concert next week!
Yesterday, I spent the bulk of the day in Ft. Worth. Since we've had an influx of new referrals, the three of us doing this job each have set aside one day a week to interview new clients. I had four clients, back to back. They all showed up, so that was really good! I was definitely drained by the time it was over, but it was a good feeling.
This afternoon, I finished up my research article. Once I get in the mode, I can crank them out pretty quickly, and today was no exception. I'll print it off and turn it in at school, and I'll have another research project completed, and another item to cross off my list! Although I'm tired and have a huge headache from being on the computer all afternoon, I feel so much better, having this project finished!

Merry Music Makers

In celebration of our three month anniversary, I wore my tiara up to church for Merry Music Makers rehearsal. The women on the staff thought it was a great idea, wearing a tiara to celebrate. (Of course it is!). I also had on my "wedding socks" and "bridal tennis shoes". While no one noticed the shoes and socks, a tiara does stand out. Several of the girls in the choir noticed, and one even said, "Miss Desiree, you're so beautiful!". That definitely made me smile.
Last year, I helped out with the group called Merry Music Makers. It's a pre-choir, getting kids used to singing with each other and helping them learn to love music! This year, I'm in charge. We sing songs, play games (music related, even!), have sharing time and prayer time. I've heard several comments from parents, telling me how much their kids enjoy coming to choir. That really makes my day! It's a high-energy group, and they're very enthusiastic! I enjoy working with them, and it's also really fun when they'll come up to me at church and say hello.
Completely unrelated: I finished my poster for the Texas Psychological Association conference! It wasn't too bad to work on, but I was certainly glad to have it over with. Now it's been sent to the copy center, to be made into a poster. I'm looking forward to the conference, and even more so, the friends that we'll get to see while we're in Houston! Yay!

I love to receive mail. Not bills, of course, but cards, letters and fun stuff. Well, I got a package today! Becky and I are going to perform together at church in about a month, she'll sing and I'll play the piano. She sent me the music for that, and also for an upcoming recital that we are going to do together. We don't know when we'll do the recital, but I now have the music for it. She also included my music book that she picked up after the wedding reception. So, yay! Fun mail for Dezi.
Thursday night, David and I saw Wicked. It was so awesome! First, we ate at this really great Dezi-restaurant in Addison, called Greenz. We had some brie pastries for an appetizer, and then I had some great tortilla soup for dinner. The food was wonderful, however the highlight of the evening was definitely the musical. It was absolutely amazing! The music was great. The sets were great. The singing was great. I really want to get the soundtrack! I loved the performance and highly recommend it to anyone!
Friday night, David was on the junior high retreat, so I went over and spent the evening with Heather. We watched the wedding video, ate pizza and Boston cream cake, and practiced our knitting. (Yes, we are dorks, knitting on a Friday night. Even my mom said that much.)
Saturday, I worked part of the day at the pumpkin patch. I helped people decide what price their pumpkins were, as well as handling the money. It was kind of hot, but a breeze was blowing for a lot of the time, that made it nice. After the pumpkin patch, I went over to visit with my friend Ian, who was in town for the weekend. He was staying with his parents, so I also got to visit with them. We saw wedding pictures and the wedding video. When David came home, we all had dinner together. (And chocolate cake, to celebrate Ian's birthday!)
Sunday, I was helping out with the music for the Sunday school classes. The regular person to do that was out of town, so that's where I came in. It was fun, I really enjoyed it. And one of the first-graders colored a picture for me! After church, David and I went to Double Dave's, which is in the shopping center next to church, and recently opened. David loves the pepperoni rolls and I like the spinach rolls. I know we'll spend lots of time there! Merry Music Maker rehearsal went really well. Some of the parents have told me how much their kids like coming to choir rehearsal and how much they like me! Yay! That made me feel really, really good! Hooray!

Pumpkins, Purls, & Panda Express

This has been a great week so far! Monday night, Mom, Hant Linda, Deanna and I went to Panda Express for dinner, then went back to my parents' house for a knitting lesson. We showed off our swatches, and learned how to do a purl stitch, which is the reverse of knitting, I guess you could say. We also learned how to do stockinette and ribbing, both of which are different combinations of knitting and purling. We have our assignments for our next lesson, which will be in a couple of weeks.
Yesterday, I unpacked three boxes of my stuff. I found my jewelry box and my jewelry. Which is good, because I was getting tired of wearing the same two earrings all of the time. Now I have a plethora of earrings and acessories! As well as my pretty jewelry box.
In the afternoon, I showed up at church to help unload pumpkins for our church's pumpkin patch. I put myself as unofficially in charge of the kids' patch. A bunch of the children and I loaded up wagons with small pumpkins and carted them to the area designated for the kids. We also spread out bushels of hay all over the pumpkin patch. I finished up by shucking corn and putting them on a display stand. It was a lot of fun, and we had a bunch of people turn up for the event!
Now one thing that I noticed about my church is that they really take care of me. We are sometimes asked to stack chairs after the service, and move them to the sides of the sanctuary, to prepare for various events. Well, David and I help stack chairs whenever Billy or Laura make the request. Every time I try to stack or push chairs, at least one person (usually more) will grab the chairs I'm working with and tell me not to do that. I feel goofy just standing around the sanctuary, though. Yesterday at the pumpkin patch was no different. Every time I reached for a box of little pumpkins, somone would run up and tell me not to get it. I relayed this to David and we both thought it was funny. It's good to know that my church family is looking out for me! I really enjoy attending church there.

Mission Day

This morning, the alarm went off at 4:30. I snoozed it a couple of times, then got up to go take a shower. I left the house about ten until six. When I was saying bye to David, he looked so warm and cozy in the bed, I had serious thoughts of climbing back in.
So what was I doing so early in the morning? I drove down the street to Kohl's. A huge group of people was outside! Today was Hands On Mission Day with church, and I had signed up to work at Kohl's this morning, as part of the Clothe-A-Child program. They had coffee and donuts for breakfast. I had already eaten, of course, but I'll remember that next year.
After checking in and finding out what exactly I was supposed to do, I got in line to have a family assigned to me. While waiting, I saw several people from Grace Avenue. When I was near the front of the line, they called for one adult to go with two teens and a family, so I stepped up. My knowledge of Spanish came in very handy. I don't know a whole lot, but I remembered more than I thought I would. We had to take them around the store, help them pick out clothes, and keep a tally of how much they were spending. Each family was given a $100 voucher, and I was supposed to make sure they didn't go over that.
The first family got finished very quickly, so I got in line to assist another family. This family took longer, but there were also two children in that family. As her children were trying on clothes, I had a talk with their mother. She told me that they were evacuees from New Orleans. They had packed up their casual and summer clothes, but not the clothes for cooler weather. They had bounced around from place to place in this area, and finally were calling Frisco home. Just hearing about their experiences leaving their home, and going back to find everything gone made me really appreciate what I have.
The Clothe-a-Child project was supposed to go until 11:00 a.m. The families were allowed to start shopping at six-thirty. By the time I finished assisting the second family, all of the families had been helped. They also had face painting and coloring for the kids to do. The whole thing really made me glad to be a part of it. The best part was as I was driving home. There was grey sky and rain all over the place, but a beautiful rainbow cut across the sky. A great ending to a wonderful morning.

State Fair

Mom and I visited the State Fair on Monday. We were going mostly for the food. I had some really good fried green tomatoes, while Mom had a funnel cake. We didn't go on any rides, but we walked around quite a bit. We saw the auto shows, the women's building. We looked at the competition items, such as quilts, embroidery, photographs, canned fruits, and all sorts of stuff.
There was the trailer for American Chopper also. We took pictures of it, as well as several of the motorcycles that they had on display. We also took the requisite picture of Big Tex. Funny, he seemed a lot bigger when I was younger. In the food and fiber building, we got to see Elsie & Beau, the dairy cows. We learned how they make cotton soft, and looked at various products coming out on the market.
On our way to the car, we stopped and each bought a bag of cotton candy. Now that's some quality fair food! A good time was had by all.
