Annoyed at the Internet

That's right, I'm annoyed at the Internet. My photos page is down yet again, and I am not happy about it. I'm also annoyed that Blogger doesn't let me upload pictures on the site. I tried doing it with HTML, that didn't work either! Oh well, I had a really cool picture from last night's festivities, and I can't post it on the Internet! GRRRR!

Aside from being annoyed at the Internet, it has been a good set of days. Thursday night was the first gathering of Hearts of GOLD, a new women's group that will meet quarterly. We had a speaker talk about breast cancer and the impact it had on her marriage. After that, we had some wonderful cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory! I tried the Dulce de Leche caramel cheesecake. I didn't eat dinner to save room for cheesecake, yet it was so filling, I couldn't even finish it! Very yummalicious, though.

Friday was the spring conference for DFW Regional Association of School Psychologists. Since it was held at Lewisville ISD, it was very close, so I decided to go. I'm sure glad I did! We learned about working with behavioral/emotional disturbed kids. A lot of it was stuff that I had already been taught, and am doing with my current job, however, it is good to know I'm on the right track! I also got to see several people I haven't seen in quite awhile, so that was an added perk!

Yesterday morning, David had to work, so I decided to get breakfast ready for Sunday school class (I made cinnamon rolls!) then do a little shopping. The Restyle consignment shop was having a huge sale, unfortunately I was not having any luck finding anything to fit me. I was really disappointed, because I would have gotten a great deal, but what can I do? Oh well, I'm still going to check back every so often, maybe I'll get lucky again!

Last night, we went to Coppell Relay for Life. A youth from David's old church was forming a team and invited David to be on it. I invited myself, and we had a fantabulous time! Relay for Life is an event that is to raise money for cancer research. Frisco has the same event, which was supposed to be Friday night, but it was postponed due to rain. So I may go walk in that one, too, and be surrounded by our church family.

Today was the last Merry Music Maker rehearsal. Their big concert is next Sunday, and we worked really hard on our repertoire! I had asked the parents to come back about ten minutes early, and we had an award ceremony! The kids loved it, and the parents seemed to enjoy it, too! I also bought cupcakes and white grape juice for refreshments. We ended the year on a great note, pun intended! I'm excited to see how they do next week!

Graduate Student Happenings

On Monday, I got to experience the bug in the ear. It's an electronic device, where one person wears a headset and speaks into a microphone, while the other person has an earphone. We did this so my supervisor could observe my therapy session through a two-way mirror, and offer suggestions. I felt like a secret agent! It was kind of weird having a voice in my ear every so often, but it worked really well! It was especially helpful when I got stuck during the session.

I also talked with my major professor about my comprehensive exams. The psychology department is doing them differently, I can show my proficiency by either taking an exam, or demonstrating in other ways. For instance, my jurisprudence exam should qualify as profiency in legal & ethical issues. My Psychology GRE score could demonstrate mastery of general psychological knowledge. My presentations for TPA would show my research design abilities. I plan on starting the process within the next few weeks. I will be very glad to have it over with.

Tonight, I'm going up to Denton for a movie. There's a premier of a movie about working with child abuse victims. I have a feeling it will not be an easy movie to watch, but it'll get me out of group supervision tomorrow night if I present my ticket stub to my supervisor tomorrow.

So that's what is going on in my graduate student life. Perhaps not too exciting, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

The Littlest Drummer Girl

Last night, I performed with the Frisco Community Band at the Fair Park band shell. Whenever I perform there, I always picture the cartoon of Bugs Bunny conducting in a band shell. They always played William Tell Overture. I think it would be very funny to do that, or play the Merry Melodies song.

It was a fun concert. The other band playing was the Richardson Community Band, one of the members of that group used to be in the Carrollton Wind Symphony with me. In fact, her husband played percussion with me for several years. He was there, along with their son. It was really neat to get to talk with them!

After our band played, we put away the percussion equipment that we brought, and I joined David in the audience. I asked David if he could see me or hear me. He said he couldn't always pick out my part, but that he could see me. He noticed that I was the smallest one, or as he put it "the littlest drummer girl." I pointed out that yes, I was definitely the only drummer girl and the shortest. I'm the smallest, too, and therefore earn the nickname Littlest Drummer Girl. What do you think? Does it fit? I think so.

Pooey

I realized a couple of days ago that my photo gallery was no longer accessible. Considering how many photos and albums I had on there, it made me quite cross. Luckily, David poked around on the site, managed to save all of my pics to a disc, so now all I have to do is upload them all again. All 1300 of them, which is going to be a pain, but oh well. At least they were saved in their albums, that makes things easier.

I've got two albums uploaded already. So just be patient, and I'll let you know when the rest of the pics are up and running again!

I love Easter! It's my favorite holiday! I bounced out of bed at five-thirty this morning. David & I had decided to attend the sunrise service, mostly because the youth were in charge of it. I had decided to wear my hot pink suit, yesterday I found the perfect shoes at Designer Shoe Warehouse to go with it!

We made our way to the church, David less enthusiastic than me, however, we went. We sat in between the sanctuary building and the modular building. The youth choir sang, the youth also put on a drama. I had seen part of it last week, it was neat to see the whole thing. At one point, the moon was behind us and the sun was creeping above the horizon in front of us. It was a really neat service, and I am glad we were a part of it!

David took me to Starbucks before I had to be back at the church to rehearse with the choir. Our church had added an 8:00 service just for Easter. We sang at the 8:00 and 9:15 services. The first service was well attended, and for the second service, they were bringing out extra chairs! It's so neat to see all the people come for Easter Sunday.

After I was finished, David came and got me, and we went home and relaxed for a bit. Then we went to De Soto to celebrate Easter with my family. Talk about lotsa great food! I sat in the dining room with my aunts, great-aunts, Grandma and Mom. After visiting for awhile (and swapping failed and successful cooking attempts), it was time to get ready for the Easter egg hunt. Although "hunt" isn't really a good word, the eggs are put in the exact same places every year, most on the lawn, a couple in the mailbox, and a few under some shrubs. It was a fun day and now I'm pooped! I hope everyone else had a good Easter!

Good Friday

Today is Good Friday. It is a day in which we remember the crucifixion of Jesus. So far, it has been a good day. David had the day off work, and I did a couple of mystery shops. One required me to buy breakfast at a fast food place. Since I had to do the walk-in and drive-thru, David got to eat breakfast from there too! (I'm not allowed to have anyone with me when I shop.) Such a fun shop!

In a few minutes, I'll change into an all black ensemble. The choir is meeting early to go over our presentation for tonight. We are having a tennebrae service, or a service of darkness. As we sing the music and the Scripture is read, the lights will continue to dim until the congregation is in total darkness. At the very end of the service, the Christ candle is carried back into the sanctuary. We leave in silence.

It's a very moving service, definitely one of the most somber days in the Church. For me, thinking about the words I am singing, and remembering the significance of the day, really brings the point home. I hope you have a blessed Good Friday.

Zzzzzzz

WARNING: I did not get much sleep last night, so I am very cranky today. I am ranting, so just be warned.

Is the semester over yet? It seems to me that it has been going on forever! I'm quite honestly tired of driving to Denton twice a week. Don't get me wrong, I like my supervisor, I know I am learning some valuable stuff, and I enjoy learning. I also like the people in the clinic and on my practicum team. However, I have four more weeks of this!

I'm tired of being in Denton ALL DAY on Mondays AND Thursdays. I leave at seven in the morning and get home around eight or nine at night. I flat don't want to get up on those days. I come home exhausted, and I don't get to see David much. I'm tired of having to buy expensive books and then we don't use them. I'm quite honestly tired of school in general and am tempted to quit. No, I am not going to do that, however, I am tempted. Some days more than others, this just happens to be one of those days.

I realize this is probably just lack of sleep talking and tomorrow I'll be fine again. However, this is how I feel today. Thanx for letting me vent. I could use a hug and some happy thoughts sent my way.

Hosanna!

Today is Palm Sunday. We celebrate the day that Jesus came into Jerusalem. When He rode into the city, the people waved palm (and other trees) branches and shouted "Hosanna!" We had a processional with the children waving palm branches. We (the youth & adult choirs) processed behind them, and sang the call to worship. I wound up standing in the middle of the youth instead of with the adults, but I'm the same height as the girls I was next to, so I blended in nicely.

Our song went quite well, I thought. Our sermon was based on (of course) the Palm Sunday story. One thing that I learned from Billy today was that Hosanna literally translates into "save now". Billy mentioned how a lot of shops will have signs that say "save now." I know I will think of the word Hosanna when I see one of those signs!

After an action-packed Merry Music Makers rehearsal, it was time for the annual church Easter egg hunt. They divided up the field into different sections, so the toddlers wouldn't be competing for the same eggs as the school-aged kids. They also had a ten egg limit for the older ones. I hung around Lisa and Jakob. I took lotsa pictures, Jakob was a willing subject, as well as several other kids. I took action shots of the hunt, pics of them enjoying their prizes, (I even was offered a Nestle Crunch egg, although it was almost completely melted. Oh well, the kid's intentions were good), pics of the meat ministry making the hamburgers/hot dogs, and finally, pictures of the bounce houses and inflatable slide.

I also had fun trying out the inflatable slide. A couple of sixth grade girls wanted to race me down the slide, so I rode it twice, even! It was a lot of fun. Awhile later, I was helping shepherd the kids off the slide, when the kid helping me discovered that she could make me bounce on the bottom of the slide. I was also taking pictures, and then she'd come up and bounce me, so sometimes the pics didn't turn out well. David took over crowd control on the slide (I was giving him a break while he visited), and she didn't try to bounce him! He also rode the slide too. I don't know who had more fun this evening, the kids or the "grown-ups".

Happy April

Well, here it is, April already. This week has been a good one. I'm glad to be towards the end of the semester, it will be nice to not have to go to Denton twice a week! My supervisor/major professor has some possible work lined up for the summer in Carrollton, it would be nice if that panned out.

Tuesday night, band rehearsal as usual. We have another upcoming performance, at the Fair Park bandshell in a couple of weeks. Our band's president has designed (well, I don't know if he actually designed it, but I don't know who did, so I'm going to say he did) some merchandise with the band's logo on it. He brought some of the magnets to band last week, and I wound up with one! Take a look at some of the cool merchandise! I thought it was pretty cool. He also had a jacket made up that says "FCB" on the back. To the percussion section, it kind of looked like they messed up "FBI".

Anywho, I'm excited about the upcoming concert. One of the things we're working on is selections from Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith. One of the songs in the piece begins with nothing but me on the marimba for about five measures. It's a little freaky when the entire band drops out like that! The first time, I honestly thought I was in the wrong spot! I really enjoy the band and am glad I'm a part of it.

I had a really good therapy session on Thursday. This client in particular is a difficult client to work with, however, this last session went very well, I was really excited! Friday, I completed four mystery shops. Three of them, I had to visit either grocery stores or drug stores. The fourth, I had to visit a jewelry store. Have I mentioned how much fun I'm having doing mystery shopping?

Last night, David had to work late. I thought he was in for another all-nighter, so I decided to bring him dinner. I went to a combination fast food restaurant/gas station. What I thought was silly is that I couldn't pay for my drink and snack at the fast food place, even though it was in the same store! Oh well, I'm sure they have a good reason for doing it that way. Luckily David didn't have to work all night. In fact, he was just finishing up when I arrived with food.

We were supposed to go camping this weekend. Obviously, that didn't happen. (Although there probably are some people who would take a laptop camping.) Instead, we're enjoying not having to go anywhere today. Just hanging out and doing laundry. It feels great!
