Wonderful Weekend!

We had quite the eventful holiday weekend. Sunday, we attended a luau put on by some of David's Aggie friends. It's going to be an annual thing, this was the second year they had it. We both had fun, I was very amused by the water volleyball game going on for a long time. At one point the guys all had those pool noodles and were hitting this inflatable alligator float. Then Alan was giving the alligator CPR and the Heimlich. I was taking pictures the whole time, some of them are very funny!

One of the couples there was about to get married, so we were discussing wedding stuff. Again, I'm so glad we are finished with all of that! At one point a bunch of the girls were talking baby stuff, David told me not to get ideas. After some of the things they were saying, the only idea I was getting was to not have kids just yet!

Monday morning I had a performance with the Frisco Community Band at the Memorial Day service put on by the city. We had some veterans present, a choir sang, a poem was read and prayers were said. An authentic WWII plane flew overhead at one point, that was really neat. The band was the conclusion of the service, providing a patriotic concert. There was quite a large turnout, I was really surprised! I was really glad we were invited to play, and glad I was able to go.

After showering and changing, David & I went to Home Depot to get window tinting stuff. For that fun story, see our web site. When we finished with the window, we went to see X-Men III: The Last Stand. I really enjoyed the film, but David, having read the comic books, said that the storyline did not follow the comics. Being uneducated on the world of comic books, I thought the movie was great. I had been told to watch past the credits, which we did. That was very interesting, but I won't say anything more about it, lest I spoil the movie for someone else.

Rude Awakening

Around two yesterday morning, the smoke alarm went off. David unplugged the one in our bedroom, yet we could still hear it. Going outside, we found out that the alarms were going off in our whole building. I put some shoes on and we walked outside. The rest of our neighbors were leaving their apartments too. I was talking to a couple of them, we were trying to figure out what was going on. Finally, the fire department came and shut them off. They told us we could go back in our apartments, then they started going off again. A few minutes later, the smoke alarms were shut off for good, and we went to sleep. Well, David did. I was too wound up, but oh well.

Yesterday was a good day, I attended the graduation of Coppell High School. Several of the youth from David's old church were graduating, and since he couldn't go, I was the Rollins representative. I sat between Laura & Katie and we had a grand time. I took a bunch of pictures of the graduates I know walking across the stage. I checked them out this morning, and they came out great!

After the ceremony, I noticed a familiar car ahead of me as I was exiting the parking lot. It was Charlie, one of the graduates! After a lot of honking and gesturing, he saw me and waved. I thought it was really funny! David & I were invited to go to dinner afterwards with the Seaman family. Although David was exhausted and declined the invitation, I decided to go. I'm glad I did! We went to Kobe steakhouse, which is a Japanese hibachi restaurant. I had never been before, it was a neat experience. I would definitely recommend it to anyone! It was an enjoyable evening and a great ending to a day that didn't start so great.

Fiddling Around

Yesterday, I had a meeting with my advisor up at school, then I went to visit with my mom. She wanted me to get her violin tuned up, so I tuned mine and brought it over, so I could tune hers off of mine. I haven't played it in three years, it felt kind of weird to play it again. However, I remembered the notes and the finger positions like I had never stopped! I just need to work on my technique to get it back up to speed.

Well, when I was tightening the pegs on Mom's violin to get it in tune, one of the strings broke. I've had the same thing happen to my violin, the best thing to do is to get the whole thing restrung. So we took it to Brook Mays, and also picked up some more rosin for me!

I took home all my music (I had a lot more than I remembered) and practiced a little bit when I got home. Ash does not appreciate my violin playing. He quickly left the room when I started playing some high notes. Oh well, he'll get over it.

Three Chicks Reunion!

Here we are, minus the ukulele! I'm experimenting with a new photo server. Click the picture to take you there! Just a few photos up right now, more will be coming soon!

I'm an LSSP Trainee!

I received an important piece of mail yesterday. Well, besides People magazine. I heard back from the state board, and I am officially a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology trainee. That means I can practice in a school district as a school psychologist for up to a year, under supervision of a more advanced LSSP. It's a big step and I was really excited to get the letter! I'm one step closer to being a full-fledged LSSP! Hooray!

Dezi the Barista?

I've been considering the idea of getting a job for the summer. Today, I decided to go for it! I got all dressed up (well, after completing more applications for both Plano & Lewisville ISD) and ran around Frisco today. I had a mystery shop, then stopped at a few places to pick up applications.

One of the places I stopped at was the consignment store, Restyle. I won a $50 shopping spree a few weeks ago, and today I hit paydirt, as far as clothes were concerned! I got three skirts, two shirts and a really cute pair of shoes! I also asked if they were looking for summer help, and got an application.

The next place I went to was Starbucks. While sipping my frappuccino, I filled out an application. It's literally right around the corner from our apartment, the convenience is nice! I turned it back in and should hear back from the manager soon. The thing I like about Starbucks is that I could do the early hour shifts and have the rest of the day free! I go there a lot anyway, might as well get paid. We shall see.

I also went to the Family Christian store. Tomorrow I plan on hitting Barnes & Noble, a stationary store and a few other places. I'm hoping somewhere will need a Dezi for a couple of months. I'm looking forward to the prospect!

I Made it!

I made it to the last day of school. It is finally here! I have all my files closed and my clinic mailbox cleaned out. I'll have my last on call hour, then I'll get to leave! Hooray!

I also had my last individual supervision session today. It was a very fruitful session, I thought. I had my student evaluation today, which is never fun, but I felt it was truthful, and showed my strengths as well as things to work on. We also had a bit of brainstorming time after we finished up the housekeeping stuff. Internship, job stuff, dissertation were all topics of discussion.

I did, finally get a better idea of what I want to do for a dissertation. I've always had this experiment in mind to play music and measure depression levels. Well, after discussing it with him, it was tweaked a bit, but the overall idea is there. I'm going to play different types of music to 5 different groups of undergrads. One group will get classical, one group will hear hard rock, one group gets instrumental music, one gets pop music, and another group will get white noise for twenty minutes. I'll measure their heart rates before and after listening to the music. I'll also use a self-report measure to get at their mood before and after the session.

I have been wanting to do this study for several years, I developed it in one of my undergraduate classes, and although it's not quite the same, it's very similar. The good part is that I could do the actual experiment portion within the span of a few days, then run the stats on it. Obviously, the background research and the logistics of when, where and how to do the experiment need to be worked out. However, it sounds like it would be very do-able to pull off. I've been performing literature searches the past couple of hours in the computer lab on music and psychology. It looks like I may have found a way to combine two things that I am passionate about!

Now I just have to propose the experiment, perform, run statistics and write it. That will be the fun part.

I Called the State

I wanted to find out the status of my LSSP application, so it was suggested that I call the state board. I called right at eight this morning, and found out that they are missing a couple of things. One of them happens to be my test scores from the school psychology exam I had taken. I got on the phone with the Educational Testing Service, and my scores will be sent to the board next week. The other item, my transcripts, I had sent, but it needs to be sent directly from the school. So I jumped in my car and drove to school, and the transcripts should be sent out by the end of this week. I'm glad I called, even more glad I got things taken care of. Once they receive everything, I will hear back pretty quickly.

On a related subject, I got a phone call yesterday from Little Elm ISD, wanting to schedule an interview! I called back this morning, and after playing phone tag, I have an interview scheduled for May 12, for a school psychologist position in Little Elm. I know an interview doesn't guarantee a job, but I'm really excited about it! It would be nice to work so close to home. Keep your fingers crossed and say a prayer for me!

Speaking of jobs, I turned in my thirty days notice with Tarrant County MHMR. I will not go into the reasons here, however if you want to know, e-mail me and I'll tell you about it. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do this summer, I just know I can't do the Tarrant County any more. It was suggested that I work at Starbucks, although all my money would probably go there! I'll find something to do, though.
