Musical Meanderings

I'm not sure meanderings is a word, oh well, it is now! I spent last week at Vacation Bible School, teaching preschool music! I had four groups of kids, two four year-old groups, a three year-old group and a group of pre-K kids. We had a blast! I love working with this age group! I had a list of songs to do with the kids, I also incorporated several of the things I do with the Merry Music Makers with these groups as well. It was definitely a workout, I think I was bouncing around more than the kids!
Also in the way of music, I played for a wedding on Saturday! It was at the Gaylord Texan resort in Grapevine. I had never been there before, it was very nice. I had a corsage to wear, and the ribbon matched my pink suit perfectly! The ceremony was beautiful, and I felt that I did a good job with the music. The reception was a lot of fun, we ate some great food. David had an almost religious experience with the steak that was served! After a stop for a Coke, we made our way home. I really enjoy playing at weddings!
Sunday was my last week of teaching Sunday school. (At least for this rotation.) We had been building churches, and finished them up. The regular music person was out of town, and two other people who are normally there were not there. I wound up doing the music and worship portions. I just got out the Vacation Bible School cd and taught them the songs if they didn't already know them.
Then Sunday night I received a phone call from my mom. For my birthday, my parents bought two tickets to see my favorite musical, Les Miserables! It is David's favorite as well, and we're both really looking forward to it. We'll be attending the show next Tuesday! I pulled out my sheet music for Les Mis and have been playing it the past couple of days. Hooray, an early birthday present!!
This Saturday, the Frisco Band is having a concert, and I get some good solos so yay for that! Next week is also our church's music & drama camp. I was asked to teach one of the classes, called the "Boomwhackers". It's a set of pitched tubes, with which I will teach rhythms, melody, counting and such. It's going to be a great week!

Doesn't that sound like it should be a movie? I think so! Anywho, so my reunion occurred on Friday & Saturday night. I made good time, driving in from the wedding in Grapevine, and arrived at the Fox & Hound around eight-thirty. While I was getting my nails done on Friday afternoon, my friend Stephanie called to see if I was going. I replied in the affirmative, as did she, so I knew I would at least know one person there!
It was really neat to see, well first of all, who showed up, and second, how much they've changed since graduation! Most people were still recognizable to me, and I was told by many people that I hadn't changed a bit since high school. I was amused to see that everyone tended to talk to the same people they talked to in high school, with a few exceptions. I guess the old cliques never go away!
Saturday night, we were at Sneaky Pete's on Lewisville Lake. I brought my camera and took quite a few pictures. David & I got a table with Stephanie & her husband, it was really nice to meet him and to talk with her some more! There were more people there the second night. A few of us girls were dancing around to a song, then David cut in and started dancing with me! Yay! I love to dance with David! We were doing some serious rug-cutting! They had voting on different categories: most kids, married the longest, traveled the farthest, most eligible bachelor & bachelorette, still crazy, most changed male/female, and least changed male/female. The least changed female category was won by me! I thought that was neat. So, here's a picture of me during my senior year, and one taken the other night. Do I look the same? Ya'll decide!
Action Packed Weekend!

This weekend is going to be action packed and lotsa fun! It all starts tonight, with a wedding rehearsal. A longtime friend of my parents is the wedding coordinator for her church in Grapevine. Whenever a couple wants a pianist for their wedding, she calls me. I was available, so now I'm going to the rehearsal tonight. After the rehearsal, I'm meeting with the vocalist from next week's wedding! How cool is that, two weddings, two weekends in a row!
After the wedding tomorrow night, I'll quickly change clothes and head to my high school reunion! I'm really excited about it. It's hard to believe that it has been ten years since I graduated! I feel so old! Tomorrow night is the ice breaker party. Since I think it would be silly to drive from Grapevine to Frisco to Carrollton (which is where tomorrow's social is), so I'm going to go alone.
Saturday night is the main event, which is off of Lake Lewisville. This night will also include food and dancing, which I'm a big fan of! This afternoon, after a couple of hours of piano practice, I pulled out my old letter jacket and tried it on. I remembered how excited I was to get it my freshman year. It pretty much fits the same as it did back then, except for the sleeves are slightly shorter. Here are some pics! Hooray, class of 1996!

Saturday night, David & I decided to go on a picnic at the Frisco Commons Park. After an afternoon of looking at computer hardware, we picked up some Subway sandwiches and headed out to the park. It was a beautiful evening! I showed him where the band played last week, we walked around to explore. We saw a beautiful pond, some informational displays about historical Frisco, and just enjoyed nature and being together.
Last night, our church had a block of seats at the Rough Riders game. Since it was Dad's birthday, we decided to take him to the game! We had a great time. Billy said about a hundred tickets were sold for our group. We were right next to a grassy area, where the kids (and the "big" kids) could run around. Great game, and we won, so that made it even better!
On a side note: I taught Sunday school yesterday. A fifth grade girl came up to me and told me that I looked old enough to be in sixth grade. That was funny.

This week has been pretty eventful. First of all, David started his new job! He says he's enjoying it so far, so yay! It's so nice to have him working so close to home, and I know he likes the much shorter commute.
I spent Tuesday filling out job applications for a summer job. Having completed all of them, I distributed them on Wednesday. I had an interview yesterday and another tomorrow. The interview yesterday was for a position at a clothing store in the mall called Express. I like the clothes there, and they do have some Dezi-sized clothing, so yay! I've never worked in a place like that before, I think it would be fun. I'll find out on Monday if I got the position.
Last night, David & I were out shopping for new computer parts. While he was looking around at hardware at CompUSA, I was looking at software. (I also found a neat little digital picture carrier, too, but that's another story.) In the discount display, I found several sudoku programs. After much deliberation, I picked one out and tried it out last night. I am now officially hooked! It's a fun game and definitely addicting!
Today, after performing a couple of mystery shops, I went out to Paint Yer Pottery. I have some friends that are moving out of town soon, and I wanted to paint some pottery for them. Upon arriving, I quickly decided that painting is not my forte, so I decided to try my hand at a mosaic project. It turned out quite well, I'm very pleased! I have to wait until tomorrow to add the grout (which was provided by the pottery studio), then it'll be ready to go. I'll post a picture when I get it completely finished. We may have a new hobby for Dezi!
