Dezi's Spa Day

Today, I redeemed my gift certificate at the Face & Body Spa that David gave me for my birthday. When I called last week to make the appointment, I was asked to come about thirty minutes early to give me some time to relax before my treatments.

After filling out some paperwork, I was shown to the women's locker room, where I put my stuff. I was encouraged to select a robe and sandals. There were four different types of robes to choose from! I was also encouraged to try the steam room, which I did stick my head in. I'm sure it feels good on cooler days, but I decided I could get the same effect from standing outside!

I went into the relaxation room, which is where you wait until your therapist comes to get you. They had a fountain in the middle of the room, which made me need the restroom. I was introduced to my therapist, then ushered into the therapy room. After getting situated on the table, she began the island java body polish treatment. That felt wonderful! It also smelled wonderful. I definitely want to get one of those dry brushes that she used.

I washed off the excess scrub in the adjoining shower while the therapist got the bed ready for a massage. That massage felt wonderful as well. I didn't fall asleep, however, I was feeling really good afterwards. There was a heating pad underneath me and soothing music playing in the background (most of which I recognized.) There was a sound box(?) that played water noises during the massage.

After she finished, the therapist showed me to a lounge area nearby. She brought me a cup of hot tea and cookies while I relaxed on a chaise lounge. I enjoyed a magazine while sipping my tea and listening to the trickle of another fountain. Once I finished my tea, I figured it was time to go. My therapist met me at the checkout counter with a list of what she did and the products that she used. It was a wonderful experience and I felt very pampered! While I may not be able to do it too often, it is definitely something I would like to experience again.

Crafty Dezi

First of all, I found these clay pot creature kits on sale for 99 cents at Michaels, so I decided to try one and see how easy it was to do. I thought it turned out rather well! I also picked out some Christmas presents while I was there. I thought it would be better to start shopping for Christmas stuff now, as opposed to waiting until December like I usually do.

This week was art camp at church. We did several projects, including, paper mache masks, drawing, using oil pastels, sponge painting, motion projects, drawing on the sidewalk, etc. Unlike Vacation Bible School or Music & Drama Camp, at art camp, the kids stay in the same room the entire morning. I was assisting in the 2nd-5th grade room. We had a group of nine kids, it was a good group, but tiring! I am so pooped right now!

Night of Two Parties

Last night was the fourth annual block party for my parents' street. Each year it gets a little bigger. They have a live band, a bounce house and waterslide for the kids (until they adults get to play in it later), a ton of food and a bunch of people! People set up canopies in front of their house, my dad smokes a bunch of meat, and it is definitely a party atmosphere!

These year, the theme was a luau. Mom purchased a huge inflatable flamingo with the word 'aloha' which added to the festivity. Mom also rented a cotton candy machine, we all took our turn behind it. By far, the best cotton candy maker was David! It took me a couple of tries to get it down, but once I got the hang of it, the cotton candy I gave out was much better.

I also ran into someone from high school, who knew one of my parents' neighbors. How crazy is that? After we were all fed and sticky from the cotton candy, David and I jumped in the car and headed to another party! (Don't worry, we changed clothes before going to the next shindig!) The Genesis group, which is the new group for the under-35 crowd at church, had a game night. I had baked a couple of pies (one for each party) and thrown a couple of our games into a bag. We arrived in the middle of Scene It, and I must say, David & I didn't do too badly!

Overall, it was a very good evening, although we were totally pooped afterwards. We're definitely feeling it today. I must say that it was worth it. Parties are good!

Girls' Day Out

Yesterday was the start of a new ladies' Bible study. We are discussing women of the Bible. Yesterday's study focused on women who were set aside. I know a lot of it has to do with the culture back then, and the value of women in society. We discussed how the women must have felt, and how that relates to women today. It was really interesting!

Then I went with Heather for lunch and an afternoon together. We had a coupon for Mi Casa, so that's where we ate lunch. I then gave Heather a scenic tour of Frisco. When it gets a little cooler, we might actually venture out of my car and walk around some of the places we drove past.

I showed her the Restyle store, and we both made some purchases! Heather found a cute purse and flip-flops, while I found a pretty green suit for $8.50! We also did a lot of store browsing, and I think I may have even found some Christmas gifts for a couple of people! I know it's a bit early to be Christmas shopping, however, when I find the perfect gift, I tend to buy it now instead of waiting.

Today I ate lunch with the junior high at a local Frisco restaurant. I don't know if it was because we had a group of ten, but the service was really slow. David joined us, and I finally had to ask our waiter to put his sandwich in a to-go box, since he had to get back to work. There really weren't that many people there, I have no idea what was taking so long. It really does not make me want to go back. I did, however, have a coupon for a two-for-one meal, which meant I only had to pay for David's meal & our drinks. Oh well, at least I saved money!

Speaking of saving money, I recently purchased an Entertainment Passbook for 2006. I'll get the 2007 version in a couple of months. On the website, there are also coupons that can be printed off separate from the book, which is what I used today. I glanced through the coupons in the book, and I really think we'll use quite a few of them. Hooray for saving money!

Exciting Excursion!

I'll start the post by commenting on my birthday. It was fantabulous! David gave me my presents soon after we woke up. He actually went to Sam Moon and bought me a purse! A pink one! It is so cute, and I love it! He also got me a Hallmark keepsake box, with a gift certificate for the Soaring Spirit package at a spa in Frisco! It consists of an hour long Swedish massage, and something called Island Java Body Polish, which after looking it up on the Internet, I found that it is an exfoliating treatment. Hooray! He also gave me a sweet card and a note tucked into my laptop.

I taught my first piano lessons in Frisco on my birthday. I have four students! I'm looking forward to getting back into teaching piano. For dinner that night, we went to the Macaroni Grille. David told the waitress that it was my birthday, another waitress came over with some ice cream after our meal, a pretty flower, and sang Happy Birthday in Italian, with a beautiful soprano voice!

Friday after David got home, we left for Abilene. We had a wedding to attend on Saturday, which was taking place there, so we stayed for the weekend with Mike & Barbara. I received my birthday present from them on Friday night, the special edition of The Wizard of Oz, along with a gift card to Starbucks! I was so excited! We enjoyed some visiting then I headed off to bed.

Since the wedding was in the evening, Barbara & I did some shopping and got manicures. David & his dad went to some estate sales in the area. The wedding was nice, it was great to see David's family again. I was excited to see not one, but two chocolate fountains at their reception. Apparently, we started a trend! After the wedding, we changed out of our finery and visited with Braden & Heather. That was fantabulous!

Sunday, Jeff, Sam, Sheila, Mike & Rachel all joined us for lunch. Great food! I kept Rachel entertained by demonstrating songs on her toy xylophone and reading a book with her. As always, it was an enjoyable time!

Okay, now for the big news. David & I are going to be celebrating New Year's in London!!! I am so excited about it! Mike & Barbara were telling us about a really great deal that they got on tickets, and said we should join them. When I went to bed on Friday, I thought it was a maybe. I found out on Saturday that we are going! It's David's anniversary present to me! I was jumping up and down when I found out, and I haven't stopped grinning since. Now I just have to brush up on my British terminology! Cheerio!

Happy Independence Day!

Wow, I have not updated in almost two weeks! A lot has been going on since my last post. First of all, Les Miserables was wonderful! We ate dinner at the restaurant in the Music Hall, which was very good. We were sitting next to the dessert table. I seriously considered pulling my chair up to the dessert table! The musical was spectacular, we were both really impressed with the singer who played Jean Valjean. What a wonderful voice! He gave me chill bumps several times! I also have a t-shirt and program to remember the evening by!

Music and drama camp went very well. I taught the Boomwhackers class. They are a series of colored, pitched tubes. I worked on rhythms, pitches, ear training and also taught them some songs to play with the boomwhackers. That was their favorite, along with using the boomwhackers as lightsabers while the theme from Star Wars played in the background.

The kids learned a musical during the week, and performed it on Sunday night. I played some rags on the piano, some people sang solos, the adult choir sang, the combined adult & children's choir sang, and I directed the oldest group of kids (3-5 grades) in playing a rousing rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on the Boomwhackers. After all of that, the kids performed their musical. I thought that it went very well!

So today is Independence Day. I'm playing around on the Internet this morning, while watching a great American classic, Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith. I think that Anakin Skywalker guy is going to turn to the dark side of the force. Yes, I have seen it before and do know the outcome, I'm just being silly. So, what are we doing with the rest of the day? Not a clue. We may go up to church tonight, it's a great location for viewing fireworks. We shall see! Happy Independence Day, everyone!
