Funnies With Dezi

  • I had a sixth grader tell me that my height gave me away as an adult. I'm maybe two inches taller than she is.
  • Someone thought I was David's younger sister.
  • I was told by a four year-old that I look really young.
  • My fruitless attempts to eat my lunch with chopsticks (to be fair, it was pasta)
  • My purse strap broke and whacked me in the eye.
  • Almost falling on my face while trying on cute shoes with stiletto heels. (needless to say, I didn't buy them)
  • Waving my hand at an out of reach object, hoping it would somehow fall into my hand. This technique does not work.
  • Dancing around and singing at six in the morning after junior high marathon night.
  • Trying to explain how Jesus & a magnet are similar, to five and six year-olds.
  • Running into the Tom Thumb by my parents' house and meeting up with two people who knew me, whom I hadn't seen in about six years.

My life really is a sitcom.

    Wacky Weekend

This weekend was fantabulous! It was very action-packed and crazy, but it was also a lot of fun. It all started on Friday, at the dentist. Well, that wasn't the fun part, but after my dentist visit (my teeth are all clean now!), I went to pick up Heather. I was asked a couple of weeks ago to bake six dozen cookies for New Member weekend, and I had employed Heather to assist. Let me tell you, fun always ensues when Heather & Dezi are baking together!

In between taking batches of cookies out of the oven, we had a nice visit. I had also asked Becky if she were free Friday night, so she came up to spend the night! Once Becky came, we all went out to dinner at the Olive Garden! It has been quite awhile since I'd been there. We then went to Starbucks (of course) and then took Heather home. Saturday, Becky & I drove around, running various errands before she had to head home. It was a great visit and I'm so glad she was able to come up. It's really great that she lives close and can visit!!! Hooray!

As if that weren't crazy enough, when David & I got to church this morning, the power was off. It threw everyone off, and we actually had to break open the hymnals during the contemporary service! The order of worship was also different, but that was okay with me. The power did come back on in the middle of Billy's sermon, I was glad! After church, we went out to the front of the building to dedicate a new sign for the church. Also, since it was the church's seventh birthday this weekend, we had a celebration with cake & punch. I do love cake!!! Still, the wackiness went on.....

Late afternoon, David & I showed back up to church in ratty clothes for Sloppy Sunday with the youth. We threw eggs, colored mashed potatoes, flour, chocolate, and a bunch of other stuff. I got overheated very quickly and spent a lot of time indoors. One of the junior high girls wasn't feeling well, so she came in with me. Her shirt smelled really bad, which was making her sick. I was wearing a bathing suit under my clothes, so I loaned her my shirt. I never thought being the same size as a seventh grader would come in handy. The kids (and the adults) had a great time and we don't have to do it again until next year!!!

    I am Finished!!!

I have been working on my Licensed Specialist in School Psychology license over the past several months. I received Trainee Status back in June, sent in my money and confirmation letter, and was awaiting the jurisprudence exam.

Late last month, I received the exam. It covers legal and ethical issues in psychology in Texas. I dug out and dusted off my Texas Mental Health Law book, as well as the Rules & Regulations of the Texas State Board. Many hours were spent reading over the rules and laws.

I started officially filling in answers this week. I started by answering those questions that I knew, then circled others to look up guidelines for. The last few evenings, I've been holing up in our office, writing the exam. I had gotten down to seventeen questions left as of midnight.

After not being able to sleep, I decided to work on the exam some more. I am happy to say that I am finished! I'll double check my answers, of course, but it feels good to have it finished. I'll pop it in the mail either this afternoon or tomorrow. Then comes the hard part: waiting for the results.

On that note, I'm going to bed. Good night!

    Special Guest

Barbara came into town on Wednesday, to attend a conference at a local hotel. She stayed with us and we had a great time! On Wednesday, we went and watched David at his kickboxing class for awhile, then we journeyed to Starbucks, and I showed her some of the neighborhoods we were considering buying a house from. David joined us after class, and after getting cleaned up, we all went out to dinner.

Last night, we had dinner with Dad at Red Hot & Blue! I had a good time and enjoyed my food. Mom wasn't able to come, but we still had fun. We then went over to Fry's to look for some electronic stuff. I found a Handel cd that contained the Royal Fireworks Suite as well as Water Music. I had been looking for classical British music, to get in the mood for our London trip. (Although listening to the Beatles has a similar effect.) We concluded the evening with a trip to Sheridan's, the frozen custard place.

We said good-bye to Barbara this morning. I bought a book for our overnight guests to sign, and she got to be the first person to sign it! I know it's a silly thing to get excited about, but I was. We had a good visit and I look forward to our next one. Yay!

    Cat Caught Red Pawed!

I was greeted by this sight as I was walking past the door this morning. Yes, this is our cat, and yes, he is doing what you think he is. I thought only dogs did this! He has his own water dish, full of clean water, I have no idea why he was doing this. I guess he was just being a cat.
