Ice in Texas?

I saw weather reports that predicted ice storms last night and today. Since the weather was in the 70s the past few days, it was a bit hard to believe. However, being a native Texan, I do know how quickly the weather can change!

I went to pick up a pizza for dinner, the temperature had already dropped quite a bit at that point. We heard rain fall several times during the night. When my alarm went off this morning, I got up to check the listings, and our area school districts were open, which meant I was expected to go to work. (If Frisco ISD is delayed or closed, then the preschool is closed). I checked my car for ice, then had an uneventful drive to work.

At one point during the morning, my students and I could hear the sleet hitting the windows. It was decided that we would close early, and the employees were gradually sent home. My kids' parents came a little before noon, so then I was able to go home. I had ice on my car, but the drive wasn't too horrible. David was sent home a little after three.

It was nice to have an afternoon at home, I was very productive in working on my lesson plans and getting things printed off. I don't know what tomorrow's weather will bring, but I guess we'll find out!

Terrific Thanksgiving!

David and I drove out to Abilene on Wednesday evening. While the drive was pretty uneventful for most of the time, about thirty minutes outside of Abilene, a doe crossed I-20 right in front of our car. Thank goodness no one was around us, so we were able to swerve into the next lane, missing the deer. It certainly made our hearts race for awhile, though!

Thursday, we went over to David's aunt & uncle's house for the festivities. There were a great variety of food to try, and I enjoyed everything I had! David & I sat with Jeff & Sam at the kitchen table. I was amused that we were the kids table, with the "kids" all being in their late twenties! It was a lot of fun. Kelly & I entertained Rachel until it was time to leave.

Friday, Barbara & I did a bit of shopping, I came back with some shoes for me, as well as a present for someone else. I met up with Braden & Heather later for an evening of fun! David wasn't feeling well, but it was decided that I should go out with them. We ate Chinese food, went to a local coffeehouse, then listened to a great band! The music was great, and I even recognized a lot of it! I really enjoyed it. We finished up the evening visiting with their Shih Tzu, Whisper!

Yesterday was spent with more visiting and watching a lot of football. A whole lot of football. Way too much football for my taste. Oh well, I made a lot of progress on one of my Christmas presents that I'm making, so that made me feel really good!
Today we drove back to town, just in time to make children's choir rehearsal. Tomorrow, I go back to work, and it's back to our normal routine for a few weeks!

As a side note: How about those Aggies?

In the Dentist's Chair

This afternoon after work, I headed out to Carrollton for a dentist appointment. I was scheduled for a crown and a filling. I arrived early and they were ready for me soon after that. First thing they did was to take an x-ray of the tooth that needed a crown. I have a very small mouth and a gag reflex, and the tooth was on the top, all the way in the back. Needless to say, getting an x-ray was fun. Then it turned out that the x-ray didn't work, so we had to do it again!

The drilling didn't bother me at all, aside from a bit of tooth sensitivity and it being kind of loud. Both the dentist and the assistant were very nice. I did find out today that I have short teeth. I thought it made sense that since I'm short that my teeth would also be short, but it was kind of a funny comment.

The dentist also commented about how small my mouth was. After ten years of orthodontal work, including two retainers to make my mouth bigger, it's still really small. Oh well, I am not a large person, so what do they expect? Despite the size of my mouth, they still managed to cram as many instruments as they could in there to work on my teeth.

The last part was to make an impression of my tooth to make my crown. We had to do it several times, as it kept coming out wrong. At this point, the gel to make the impression kept pushing up against the drilled tooth, which was rather uncomfortable. We finally had a winner, then glued in the temporary crown.

After all of that, I go back in three weeks to get my permanent crown. While this whole ordeal wasn't too bad, I am definitely glad to have it over with!

Totally unrelated: I also updated our site, as well as the preschool site!

Aggieland

Friday night, David & I drove down to College Station. A couple of David's friends were gracious enough to let us stay with them. We arrived around ten-thirty, with the intention of going to Midnight Yell. However, once we sat down, there was no getting up. Oh well, maybe next time.

Saturday morning, after breakfast, we went over to Aggie Outfitters to pick me up some new shirts. The line in that place was amazing! By the time we got to the register, the lines went clear across the store! Crazy! Shirts in hand, we went back to the house to rest up a bit before meeting up at the Wesley foundation.

I was all decked out in one of my new shirts and ready to greet and visit! David & I headed over to campus and met up with some of his friends. I also spent some time running around with the camera, taking various pictures. After some visiting, we decided to take a tour around campus. We walked around for awhile, got a Coke, and started to walk around more. It was at that point that I got cold, so we headed back to Wesley and watched some of the game.

We met up with some more of David's friends to go to dinner. I had a fantabulous time and the food was also great! We then packed up our stuff and drove back to Frisco. The thought of sleeping in our own bed was very appealing, so that's what we did. A good time was had by all! Pictures can be viewed on my photo page. Enjoy!

Walk for Diabetes!

The alarm went off at five-thirty this morning. It was incredibly difficult to get out of my warm bed and into the shower. Especially when I couldn't get the knob that starts the shower to work. I pulled and pulled on it, to no avail. Oh well, guess I'll take a bath instead!

After the bath, a quick breakfast and getting ready, Heather and her family came by to get me. We drove out to downtown Dallas for the event. We met up with Amanda and her family. A little after nine, the walk started. It was a 5K walk, which wasn't bad at all. I didn't train for it as much as I could have, but I still found it to be pretty easy. We didn't come in first, but we didn't come in last, either!

After we finished the walk, we went to Henk's European Deli for Henkfest! Actually, it's really called Oktoberfest, but we've always called it Henkfest. Live music, good food and lotsa fun! We were early, so we went inside and ate before the festivities. My parents gave us a ride back to the apartment, where we met up with David!

We then dropped Heather & Amanda off and ran a few errands. It was on the way home that I realized how pooped I really was. It had been a great day, and I look forward to next year!
